These are the songs I can’t go a single holiday season without listening to.
These are the songs that even in July I’m tempted to listen to.
Another Christmas is on the way, and this is another holiday season I’m spending working in retail.
It is hectic and busy all the time, and honestly the worst thing can be the constant stream of Christmas songs that are flooded my way. I’ve always thought that retailers have a special talent for finding the worst version of every Christmas song and playing them over and over.
Thankfully I have a playlist made special for Christmas time. Here are my top five songs from that playlist.
Silent Night performed by The Temptations – Growing up, one of the Christmas albums we listened to was A Temptation’s Christmas. To date this is by far my favorite version of Silent Night out of the many variations that I’ve heard.
Last Christmas performed by Wham!– I love Wham! so much. And this song, however cheesy it may be, is a song that I could listen to on repeat during the holiday season (but only when performed by Wham!).
Jesus Oh What A Wonderful Child performed by Mariah Carey– When I was in high school and I would drive and from school with my sister, one of the CD’s on rotation during the winter months was Mariah Carey’s Christmas album. And this song would always have us both singing at the top of our lungs.
Louisiana Christmas Day performed by Aaron Neville– Some days I just want to move to New Orleans and listen to jazz, and eat gumbo and beignets all day. When I still lived in Pennsylvania and had to deal with snow all the time, this song transported me to sunnier, jazzier place.
Mary’s Boy Child performed by Boney M.– Just like with the previous song, this song transports me to an island Christmas with the sounds of the steel drums. I always think of my mom jamming out whenever I hear this song.
There are countless other songs that I enjoy during the Christmas season, but these are the ones that I have to hear to make my holiday season complete.
