Spring Wood Block DIY

March 2, 2017

I love seasonal decorations, but I’ll admit that I don’t own a lot of Spring decor. After December you get a small break in January from holiday themed decor and then February hits you. So I created little woodblock sign while I was on my girls weekend. It was January so I decided to make mine transition into Valentine’s Day and then right into spring.  The beauty of this 2 sided wood block is that you can make it fit any holiday theme that you want. You have two blank canvases to work with.

Now, my cousin gave me this piece of wood that was pre-sanded and cut to size, but you can use any piece of scrap wood you find. Dimensions don’t matter.

I then took a dry foam brush and put a layer of white paint on one side. It didn’t have to be perfect. When that side was dry I flipped it around and did the same on the other side.

I then cut out little triangles in coordinating colors from all my pesky fabric scraps. One side for Valentine’s and the other side for Spring. I used 7 little triangles on each side.

Using vinyls that I had created with the Cricut, I added little sayings to the bottom of the block. “Love” for Valentines and “Hello Sunshine” for Spring. If you don’t have a Cricut, you could definitely hand letter, stencil, or use stickers. (I don’t have a Cricut, but that weekend I had one that I could utilize, so I took the opportunity).

I then hot glued a piece of twine in a wavy fashion across the top half of the block.

I added my little triangles, gluing them along the twine, creating a mini pendant banner.

Once this was completed on one side I did the same on the other side.

Just like that I have a reversible piece that I can use until Summer comes. It came together really quickly and I hope that you make your own and share them with me on Instagram! Tag me @thekaitlynpowellblog.

What kinds of crafts do you do to use up all those tiny scrap pieces of fabric? Let me know in the comments below and thanks for reading!
